I absolutely loved my wedding! It was by far the best day of my life for so many reasons. All I have to do is think about our wedding and it brings a smile to my face 🙂 The planning was so much fun but a little stressful. We didn’t have a lot of money to plan our wedding so there was no wedding planner or venue. With that being said now I will tell you…
It’s possible trust me, I did it and my wedding was absolutely perfect and beautiful. I will show you. First off you have to decide where you will get married and who is going to marry you. And this does not mean you have to have the reception at the same place you have the wedding ceremony.
When I had first met Brian he took me by an adorable very old simple little white church. As we drove by he told me that one day if he got married he would want it to be in that church. I thought to myself how sweet of him to think that way…
Little did I know at that time, I would be the one to marry him in that little white church a few years later..
See there we are in front of that church. Did you know that most churches don’t charge you to use their churches to get married in? That they only take a donation. I didn’t know that, I was completely shocked. You also don’t have to be a member of the church either.
However we happened to know a member of this church but that didn’t have anything to do with us being able to get married here.
The Pastor let us come in and rehearse the night before the wedding what a blessing that was. I found out there were a couple major things we had to adjust. So make sure you have the dress rehearsal and make it non formal just a quick meet up and run through everything. This way there are not any major issues the day of. Also, it was nice taking a lot of the big stuff we knew we would need at the church already. Less work for the day of.
Now every state probably has different laws. But here we had to wait a few weeks before we got it in the mail and then you only have limited time to use it. So when you are planning your wedding and have an exact date in mind. Look into the laws about your marriage license.
Next make your guest list as soon as you set a date. This is especially important if you want people to come from out of state. Now its time to think about invitations, you need those and let me tell you get your money out. Unless of coarse you don’t have much like us. So after hours and hours of looking on Etsy trying to find the perfect invitations.
Right there in the store. Bingo done and they even gave us envelops, I bet it cost us all of $40 for the invites and there was at least 50. Huge money saver doing it this was. I mean who cares its an piece of paper that people are only going to throw away. Use your money wisely.
I wouldn’t bother with asking people to RSVP because honestly no one responds to those these days. If you really need a exact count,call people and ask them of they are coming or not.
Or hire a photographer. I have a friend who is a professional photographer I still hired her and paid her for her time. But this is what we did do to save us money..
She took all the pictures and then she edited them and put them all on two scan disks. And then she gave them. This way I could load them onto my computer and sort through them on my time. Once I went through them all I could send a order to Nations Photo Lab and print off all the different sizes and copies of the pictures that I wanted to. This was a much more affordable option for me. Nations Photo Lab sends out very high quality prints at a very reasonable price.
Next start thinking about a DJ and where the reception will be held.
You can look on Facebook and do some research on this because you want a GOOD DJ. Get them booked quick because they fill their schedules far in advance and you don’t want to end up with a crappy DJ.
You will need a dress. Start checking around at local dress boutiques or you can always find one at David’s Bridal. Lucky for me I never had to look for a dress. I actually wore the dress that my Mom wore for her wedding she kept it for 30 years. So without a doubt I knew I was going to wear her dress. Now I did have to and get some alterations done but it turned out PERFECT!
I got all their sizes and picked everything out and that’s what they wore. Except my husband went and rented his tux. A friend of mine ordered the flowers and had lots of decorations that could be used so she loaned me her stuff and set it up for me as my wedding gift.
Our wedding cake and cupcakes were all bought from Sam’s Club nothing special but it didn’t even matter. And we had a blast stuffing cake into each other’s faces.
See if someone you know has a big backyard or a big barn you could borrow for the night. We happened to have a huge back yard. So we rented a tent and tables and chairs. The company came and set up and took down for us and they had it all set up the day before the wedding. Therefore we could start getting everything set up a day ahead of time. As long as you have some type of covering just in case it rains. And the other thing you have to have is a dance floor.
For Food I would suggest checking with a few places local around your town. Set up a tasting with a few cator’s and get some quotes. Then ask a few members of your family or friends if they minded helping with the food instead of paying a company to come set it all up and serve it. If you can just have someone pick up the food from a restaurant it cuts the food cost in half. Trust me that’s what we did. You can buy your own sterno’s, you know the candle like things that go under the food to keep it hot. Well they sell those at Walmart and Sam’s Club.
You will be filled with so much adrenaline and excitement you won’t hardly be able to eat or drink anything. The entire time from when you put your dress on and go marry the man of your dreams till the end of the night you will be so busy visiting with loved ones and being in pictures.
Don’t worry about trying to accommodate all your guests. They are there for you and want nothing more than to see you smiling and enjoying your special day. Trust me.
All you need for them is a bite to eat and something to drink a place to sit down and that’s it. Don’t trouble your self with party favors. I had some and no one even took them. Don’t bother putting disposable camera’s on the tables. Everyone uses their phones now and your friends and family can add the photos they took to a album on Facebook.
I sure do hope that these tips help you planning your special day. Just remember to have fun with the whole process. Really enjoy it. I miss the days my mom and I were going to the dress fittings and arguing with my husband about our playlists.
